UBL clinch UAE Xchange Cup to complete back-to-back titles

United Bank Limited completed back-to-back titles after a resounding 79-run triumph over Eleven Lions in the UAE Xchange Twenty20 Cup final at the Zayed stadium.

Mohammed Boota and Zaheer Maqsood grabbed six wickets between them from a combined eight overs to skittle out the Lions for 89 in reply to the Bankers 168 for six. Electing to bat first, UBL lost their captain Amjad Ali (4) to a run out with the score at 15. Syed Maqsood, his opening partner who smashed an undefeated century in last week s final, fell eight runs later for 18.

Babar Hussain then came up with an inning of substance to prop up UBL s total. He stroked 61 and featured in two valuable partnerships, adding 41 for the third wicket with Boota (21) and a further 82 with Usman Saeed, who hit 46 from 29 balls. Hussain s 52-ball knock contained four fours and a six, and Saeed hit three fours and a couple of sixes. Lions started brightly with the openers Dilan George (27) and Prakash Ram (16) putting on 47 off 30 balls.

Boota removed both the openers and Zaheer Maqsood struck at the other end to have the Lions at 48 for three. They never recovered as the remaining seven wickets fell for the addition of only 41 runs. UBL were winning their fourth successive UAE Xchange T20 Cup. They also annexed the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council T20 Cup defeating Lions Cricket Club by eight wickets last week.
