Maqsood tames Lions with quick-fire century

Published on Apr 25, 2017

Syed Maqsood thumped 100 not out off 46 balls to power United Bank Limited to a resounding 10-wicket win over Lions in the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council Twenty20 Cup. The stocky opener blasted 10 fours and eight sixes, and with his captain and opening partner Amjad Ali, who chipped in with a 23-ball 38 not out, knocked off the winning runs in 11.3 overs at the Nursery Oval-2.

The Lions tried out eight bowlers but each one of them were carted to all corners of the ground by the big-hitting batsman. Amjad s knock contained three fours and a six, but his contribution was left in the shadows of Maqsood s onslaught.

The Lions electing to bat posted 140 for nine with the main contributions from opener Chathura Deshapriya and No.4 batsman Mohamed Fazil, each scoring 32. Usman Saeed was the pick of the UBL bowlers, returning with four for 29 from his four overs. Zaheer Maqsood and Aqeel Anwar grabbed two wickets each.

The champion team: Amjad Ali (Captain), Syed Maqsood, Babar Hussain, Mohammed Boota, Usman Saeed, Saqlain Haider, Aqeel Anwar, Mohammed Naveed, Mujahid Ameen, Zaheer Maqsood, Umar Farooq, Mohammed Shakir, Shahzad Khan.
