Zayed Cricket Academy booked their passage in the semi-finals of the inaugural UAE U17 National Academy League after a resounding 54-run win over Max Talent.
The result over the weekend at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council s Nursery Oval-2 stretched Zayed Academy s record in the league phase to nine wins from 11 games and a top four spot in the 12-team table.
Abhishek Prakash and Khalid Mahmood played the main roles in the victory with an excellent 81-run stand in 51 balls for the fifth wicket without being separated to bolster the home side s total to 183 for four.
Prakash after a cautious start went after the bowling, hoisting two sixes over the long-on fence and one over long-off. He also smacked a couple of fours for a 30-ball 42 not out.
Mahmood struck three boundaries, a couple of them well-executed scoops over the Max Talent gloveman, and slapped one over deep cover for the maximum in his 27-ball 33 not out.
Zayed Academy, electing to bat first, found the run-scoring hard. They lost Akhilesh Ramesh (8) at 20 in the fourth over and Jonathan Figy (11) when the score was 68 in the 13th over. Pavan Kumar (31 in 44 balls with 4 fours) fell at 81 in the 18th over and Osama Hassan (28 in 34 balls with 3 fours and 1 six) was dismissed when the score was 102 in the 22nd over. Prakash and Mahmood then got their act together with some adventurous stroke play for their side to end their inning with a challenging total on the board.
Max Talent in reply were restricted to 129 for nine. Karthik Meiyappan (6-2-5-2) and Umair Asghar (6-1-19-2 were the pick of the bowlers while Prakash, Hassan and Burhanullah Hussaini grabbed a wicket each. Shifran Mulla provided a lone knock for the visitors. The opener stroked 56 before a throw from Safeerullah Khan from deep-point to wicket keeper Ramesh had him caught short of the crease while attempting a second run.
Scores in brief:
Zayed Cricket Academy 183 for 4 in 30 overs (Abhishek Prakash 42 not out, Khalid Mahmood 33 not out, Pavan Kumar 31, Osama Hassan 28) bt Max Talent 129 for 9 in 30 overs (Shifran Mulla 56, Karthik Meiyappan 2-5, Umair Asghar 2-19).
