Jonathan Figy produced another batting masterclass to guide Zayed Cricket Academy to their sixth win in seven games in the inaugural UAE U17 Inter Academy League.
The diminutive left handed opener anchored the host team s successful run-chase against Desert Cubs-Dubai with an undefeated 59 not out at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council s Nursery Oval-1.
The visitors electing to bat first were restricted to 131 for five and Zayed Academy knocked off the winning runs with 10 deliveries to spare for the loss of five wickets. Zayed Academy lost two early wickets with the score on 16 but recovered with a 45-run stand between Figy and Osama Hassan, who chipped in a valuable 22 with a couple of fours and a six over long-off.
Hassan s departure saw two more wickets tumble before Figy and Karthik Meiyappan saw their team through with 10 balls to spare in fading light. Figy s 76-ball knock was highlighted by four fours and two sixes, one of which was to seal the game in style by hoisting spinner Neil Lobo over the deep mid-wicket fence. It was Figy s third unbeaten half century. He took his tally to 200 runs in four innings and has got dismissed only once.
Scores in brief:
Zayed Cricket Academy 132 for five in 28.2 overs (Jonathan Figy 65 not out, Osama Hassan 22, Ashir Akbar 2-4) bt Desert Cubs-Dubai 131 for 5 in 30 overs (Neil Lobo 44, Fazal Shahid 2-8).
