Zayed Cricket Academy moved to the top of the Inter-Emirate U17 National League table after a resounding 114-run win over Desert Cubs-Sharjah, their fifth win in six games in the competition.
Osama Hassan hammered a breezy 62 for Zayed Academy to post 204 for seven. Shah Faisal and Karthik Meiyappan then grabbed four wickets each to dismiss Desert Cubs for 90 at the Sharjah English School grounds on Friday.
Electing to bat first, the openers Fazal Shahid (5) and Jonathan Figy (6) found it hard to score but some wayward bowling kept the scoreboard ticking as wide deliveries, which are not re-bowled, meant two runs credited to the score.
Desert Cubs conceded 48 extras, of which 39 were off wide deliveries and eight no-balls, the second highest contribution to the total after Hassan s 36 ball knock that was highlighted by five sixes and four fours.
The visitors were 73 for three in 13.1 overs when Hassan and Abhishek Prakash, who chipped in 29 off with a solitary hit to the boundary, put on a valuable 74-run stand in 61 balls for the fourth wicket to set the platform for a challenging total.
Anwar Khan with a six and four in a 13-ball 16, and Shah Faisal 22 not out off 10 balls with also a six and a four, produced a couple of cameo knocks to take their team s score past the 200-mark.
Faisal, the UAE U19 international, also provided the early blows by taking the first two wickets with his left arm medium pace before his UAE national team teammate and leg spinner Karthik Meiyappan took four on the trot from his six overs.
Faisal returned for his second spell to add two more to his tally for the two to take eight wickets between them from a combined 12 overs. Burhanullah Hussaini took one and the other fell to a run out.
The competition has drawn a dozen teams from across the country. They will face each other with the top four advancing to the semi-finals.
