Iftikhar guides Gymkhana to a thriller over Schlumberger

Published on Nov 14, 2016

Haroon Iftikhar, the former UAE international, drew all his experience to guide William Hare Abu Dhabi Gymkhana to a one-wicket win with two balls to spare over Schlumberger.

Had they lost, it would have been their second in two games, meaning virtually out of the race in the UAE Exchange Centre-Abu Dhabi Cricket Council President s Cup division-2 tournament.

Iftikhar came in to the crease at the fall of the first wicket at 20 and stayed on till the end for a well-compiled 55 not out for his team to reach 146 for nine after they bowled out Schlumberger to 144.

Afaq Ahmed did most of the damage by taking five for 29 from four overs but his efforts went in vain at the end.

Sandeep Menon fell four runs short of his century but his knock ensured Health Authority Abu Dhabi to record their second win in the competition. HAAD posted 253 for four and Royal in reply were bowled out for 168, leaving them winners by 85 runs.

The sponsor s team, UAE Exchange Centre, got their campaign off to a wining start with a 46-run result over Royal.
