Cambridge begin title defence with win over Model

The Cambridge High School got their title defence of the UAE Xchange Abu Dhabi School League off to a winning start, but not before a scare from Model, at the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council s Nursery Oval-2.

The five-time winners of the U19 title did well to skittle out their opponents for 95 but they themselves struggled before a quick-fire 45 not out from Pavan Kumar and aided with 20 extras propelled them to a five wicket win with more than four overs to spare.

Shrenik Jain, opening the bowling, provided the early breaks for Cambridge. He took three wickets on the trot before Abhishek Prakash wrapped up the Model inning by taking four for five from two overs that included three wickets from four balls.

Mohammed Shibil waged a lone battle for Model. The all-rounder hit 58 not out and grabbed three wickets but it all went in vain as Kumar took the game away from them with his 28-ball knock, highlighted by half-a-dozen fours and a six over deep square leg.

Sahil Shetty stroked a half century and shared 92 in 10.2 overs with Aditya Pari (22) for the first wicket without being separated for lead Bright Riders to ease to a 10-wicket win over Sunrise at the adjoining Oval-1.

Saharsh Patil and Krishna Pathak took seven wickets between them to restrict Sunrise to 91 for eight. In the other game, Fazal Shahid returned with five for 10 in 3.2 overs for Emirates Future International to emerge winners over Shining Star International by 35 runs.

The ADSL conducted by Abu Dhabi Cricket Council under the aegis of the Emirates Cricket Board and sponsored by UAE Exchange Centre has drawn 35 teams across four age groups; U19, U16, U14 and U12.
