New Medical Centre and United Bank Limited both held their nerves to pull it off with two deliveries to spare and keep their hopes alive to reach the knockout round of the Gulf Technical Twenty20 Trophy competition.
NMC got the better of Abu Dhabi Gymkhana. Fayyaz Ahmed stroked 41 off 36 balls and shared a 47-run stand in 33 balls for the first wicket with Saqib Ali, the former UAE international who smashed 34 from 22 balls, to set them the platform.
UBL had a harder task over Royal Gymkhana. They lost eight wickets in their chase after Hafiz Afridi and Umar Farooq took six wickets between to dismiss their opponents to 125.
Royal Gymkhana were given a sound start by openers Mohammed Zaman (22) and Usman Butt (14). They put on 44 for the first wicket in 27 balls and were 68 for two in 47 balls after Mohammed Boota hit a 12-ball 20. However, the rest of the batting failed to take that momentum forward. UBL in reply lost both openers for seven and were 38 for three before useful contributions from the middle order Mohammed Aqeel (29), Usman Saeed (23), Amjad Ali (25) and Afridi (29) saw them through.
