ADIS, Bright Riders meet in UAE Xchange U12 final

Published on May 8, 2016

Gary Frank led from the front for Abu Dhabi Indian School to set up a final meeting with Bright Riders in the UAE Xchange U12 Abu Dhabi School League.

The ADIS captain grabbed five wickets and took the all-important catch to dismiss Vishnu Menon, his counterpart from The Cambridge High school, for his team to emerge winners by nine wickets at the ADCC Nursery Oval. Gary held on to a powerfully-struck pull-shot to see the back of Vishnu, the leading scorer in the competition, when the opener had made 27 off 21.

Vishnu was the first to depart after a 41-run stand in38 balls with Ahmed Raza (13) before Gary s five for 10 from 3.5 overs in over two spells triggered a dramatic collapse with the remaining nine wickets falling for the addition of only 32 runs.

The ADIS openers Akshay Talekar and Snehal Shetty set up the chase with a solid 71-run stand in 59 balls. Akshay s 32-ball knock contained four boundaries and Snehal hit three fours to remain 31 not out of 37.

In the second game in the afternoon, Soorya Sathish (33 not out) and Nimalan Babu (24) shared a 62-run stand for the second wicket to set the platform for a resounding eight-wicket victory over Bhavan s. Surya Kiran (9 off 24 balls) and Ayush Deshmukh (29 off 46), the Bhavan s openers, were both forced to retire out as they were unable to accelerate the score.

Kiran came off when the score was 47 in 10 overs and Ayush followed at 67 in 13. Utkarsh Umesh who arrived at No.3 slammed 35 in 21 balls, highlighted by four fours and a six, to help his side reach 109 for three. Ironically, both ADIS and Bright Riders suffered first round defeats while Cambridge and Bhavan s came through undefeated in the group stage.

The U12 final is the last of the ADSL events after the U19, U16 and U14 tournaments sponsored by UAE Exchange Centre and conducted by the Abu Dhabi Cricket Council.
